Fiction Tutoring for Creative Writers

We support creative writing students of all ages and backgrounds, at every stage of artistic development — from beginners to workshop veterans.

Custom Creative Writing Courses

— literary education online

Our students bring a rich diversity of goals and backgrounds to their creative writing lessons with the Gilliam Writers Group. Some hope to learn the basics of fiction craft, or master a certain technique or genre, while others attend lessons with no set goal beyond exploring a new hobby. Whatever your motivation for hiring a creative writing tutor, we’re the firm for you. Our tutors offer custom-designed online creative writing courses to students of all ages, in all regions of the United States. These courses unfold over time as collaborations between teacher and student, evolving in response to accumulated feedback. Teaching is our passion, and we believe that everyone should have access to high-quality literary instruction and creative education services, so feel free to ask us anything.

While most Gilliam Writers Group courses are designed to be one-on-one, we do offer partner-style fiction writing workshops that can be attended by two students at a time. These two-student workshops are a great option for clients looking to split the cost of our hourly rate.

All Fictional Genres

— a tutor for every student

We have creative writing tutors with verified experience in nearly every kind of fiction there is. Whatever a prospective student’s genre of choice, we’ve either written it ourselves or worked with an author who has. Between us all, we’re qualified to tutor even the most experienced creative writing and fiction students. No matter your situation, no matter how obscure (or popular) your interests, we’ve got you covered.

Please don’t hold back with your inquiries; our tutors are an open-minded bunch. More to the point, we read, write, and teach a diverse array of genres: fantasy, sci-fi, historical fiction, young adult, new adult, romance, action/adventure, suspense/thriller, horror, mystery, family saga, magical realism, and all sorts of literary fiction.

Novel & Book Tutoring

— in it for the long haul

Unlike most tutoring companies, large-scale creative projects don’t intimidate us, even when they come from our youngest and least experienced students; our fiction writing tutors specialize in working with learners of all ages on a long-term basis, often for over a year at a time. While no one can write a student’s novel for them, a skilled tutor or coach can alleviate the psychological, logistical, and craft-related challenges that mark every budding author’s path to success. In other words, writing a novel demands serious individual commitment, but the process isn’t kind to lone wolves. If you or your child needs a mentor, touchstone, collaborator, cheerleader, critic, or accountability partner, then we invite you to reach out.

We have worked with every sort of would-be novelist you can imagine, from eight-year-old literary prodigies to retirees in search of a (rather ambitious) creative outlet.

Short Form Fiction Tutoring

— write, submit, repeat (or not)

The Gilliam Writers Group helps students generate and revise all kinds of shorter fictional works, primarily novellas, short stories, and flash fiction. Our creative writing tutors are ready to work with you or your child from start to finish on any writing project, regardless of age, experience, or the scope of your ambitions. From page #1 to submission #273 (just kidding!), we’ll be there.

Note that students who prefer to write just for fun, without submitting their short fiction to journals or competitions, are just as welcome as those with eyes fixed more firmly on the prize.

Fiction tutoring costs $140/hour.
