Words from our clients and students.
my book is being published!
"The book that Seth edited resulted in it being published! Children of the Scroll will be published in December 2024 by Long Overdue Books, and I am excited to be the author. Seth was instrumental in editing, mentoring and reviewing the first half of my book. He gave me the confidence to press forward. After 24 rejections, I found Long Overdue Books, who provided in-house editing, or I would have come back to Seth for more editing. Seth is a very insightful writer and editor and I will definitely keep him on my list of editors to turn to for the next book."

indispensable training in publishing and writing
"The Gilliam Writers Group is an excellent service. They are currently helping me ghostwrite a project for a high profile client. Through this coaching, I am learning how to write in celebrity voice vs my voice. Additionally, I appreciate the hands on tutoring in developing a memoir. I highly recommend this service if you are interested in becoming a published author. Jovon is an excellent tutor and her training in the publishing and writing industry has been beneficial to mastering the skill need for my book completion."

kind of astonishing
"This is an incredible resource and I still can't believe it exists. I worked with David O'Neill initially in a class, then got to work with him as a writing coach-teacher through Gilliam and it's kind of astonishing. Dave is an experienced and accomplished writer and editor; he has a sense of the landscape and takes teaching as seriously as he does writing and editing. All this care really comes through in his work. I came previously from science/med academia, but found it hard to develop one's writing seriously outside of formal institutions; most people cannot access this while also trying to make a living and attend to care responsibilities. But working with Dave has really facilitated my growth as a writer at a steady pace: in craft, pitching, building a practice, building a body of work, as well as navigating career development and material realities of freelancing. Over this time, I have been able to publish pieces, attend workshops, draft my book proposal, and develop my confidence and writing voice. Highly recommend!"

Changed my son’s outlook on learning
“Huge thanks to the Gilliam Writers Group for matching my son with Tadeh—it was the perfect fit from the start! My son had been struggling with foundational writing skills, which made him anxious about English and other writing-heavy subjects. Despite having great teachers, no one had been able to unlock his potential—until Tadeh. Over the past year, my son has gone from failing these classes to earning A’s and B’s. His teachers have noticed the transformation, and his self-esteem and confidence have soared. Tadeh is calming and makes writing interesting and fun. The difference with Tadeh is his teaching style his patience and empathy—he is a gifted teacher. The Gillian Writers Group and Tadeh have not only changed my son’s academic profile but also his outlook on learning. We are so grateful for this incredible impact!”

My first published poem!
“Seth was instrumental in getting my first poem published. His expertise in editing poetry has elevated my technique multiple times over. His generative exercises are empathetic and innovative and have helped me cultivate my poetic style. He has tons of experience with literary journals and gives great advice on curating packets for submission. He’s a joy to talk to. I always look forward to our sessions.”

exceeded my expectations
“I was admittedly pretty skeptical about writing coaching at first, but I can say that Joshua Barnett has exceeded my expectations. He grasped quickly what I was going for and has offered feedback that’s been extremely helpful. When I wanted to get a close read of my first chapter on short notice, Josh turned it around quickly. I can’t say enough about how caring and incisive his work with me has been. I feel glad to have met him and look forward to continue working with him.”

It feels like a partnership
“I can't overstate the impact Emma has had on my book, as well as my confidence and competence as an author. A good editor should identify weaknesses, errors, inconsistencies, and potential problems. They never re-write in their style/voice. A great editor is one who can take your voice and style and amplify it, and can help you achieve your vision. It's a rare thing to experience and that's what Emma provides. I am constantly in awe of how she can take my words, tweak them slightly, and infuse new life and color into the scene. … She wants what's best for your story and that's what makes it so wonderful to work with her. It feels like a partnership.”

an incredible experience
“Julián Delacruz helped me torch the walls that separated my words from their blood lineage of memory, emotion and song.”

worth every dollar spent
“I've worked with one creative writing coach at GWG on the full extent of one manuscript and parts of a second one, but after the extensive work we had done on the first one, he suggested that I should have ‘a second pair of eyes’ on the full second one for a beta-read. He recommended ——. She sent an exceedingly helpful, well-organized and well thought out editorial letter, filled with ‘actionable’ suggestions that all seem absolutely spot-on and the value of which is apparent from the get-go. I'm very happy and feel that it was worth every dollar I spent.”
— Zachary
helping writers get unstuck
“Emma is very patient and creative in helping get writers ‘unstuck.’ [She] has been instrumental in improving my writing. My only regret is that I should have worked with her sooner.”

tempted to write a sequel
“In the past year, —— has coached me through the outline, the first draft, and the revisions of my memoir. Each week, she read my work and provided instruction on where to expand, what to cut, and how to make every page better. She consistently responded with grace and compassion while effectively making suggestions to the work. Working with her has been such a joy, I am tempted to write a sequel.”
— Debbi
a positive influence
“Gina — Our daughter loves class with you, and you have been such a positive influence on her approach and reactions to writing. We are so far from where we were when we started — freaking out over a writing piece to now thinking about what to write/organizing thoughts before writing. It’s remarkable.”
— Teena
excellent at understanding the psychology of her student
“[Emma is] super sharp, insightful, generous with her time, an insanely fast reader, quick on her feet, and, and, and. She instantly absorbs whatever half-baked idea I’m working on and guides me in a clear direction. I never feel judged. I always leave our sessions excited. I’ve had writing teachers whose critiques made me want to give up. Not Emma. She’s excellent at understanding the psychology of her student and the idiosyncratic ways one needs to stay motivated. You can really feel her putting in the effort while making it all seem effortless.”
— Lindsey
already building momentum
“Seth Strickland is a fantastic writing coach! We had our second session today and he has been extremely helpful. Working with him has given me the confidence to keep going and I am already building momentum. You guys did a great job in matching us, as I think we work really well together. I'm excited about where we are taking my book.”
— Michael
thank you, Gilliam Writers Group
“I can't believe I've been working with Eva and the Gilliam Writers Group for most of the year now. I've produced many thousands of words that Eva has thoroughly read and provided deeply insightful notes and questions about. I continue to recommend this group, its coaches, and the process they use. I wouldn't necessarily recommend trying to write a novel (more fool me), but you have to follow your heart, don't you? Thank you GWG and Eva for patience, support, and expertise. Still climbing the mountain, but starting to see the outlines of a peak.”
— Reuben
insight and inspiration
“I am immensely grateful to have been coached by Caroline in the Poetry workshop! Caroline brought great guidance and muse-like abilities throughout the course, helping me to expand in ways I hadn't imagined. With her great insight and inspiration I discovered aspects of my writing voice and style. I am lucky to have found her and looking forward to further coaching with her!”
— Natasha
a positive tutoring Experience
“Our experience with the Gilliam Writers Group so far has been extremely positive! My son really likes his tutor, Brent, and Brent is doing a great job finding topics that my son is actually interested in writing about.”
— Ayla
someone in my corner
“After YEARS of trying to write my memoir and hiring various book coaches from social media, I almost gave up. But I was tired of walking the path alone. I needed someone in my corner. So I google searched one more time, and found Gilliam Writers Group. I reached out to the company and the same day they matched with ——. She is everything I ever dreamed of as a writing coach. She's confident, direct, compassionate, kind and extremely competent. It's not an overstatement to say — I love her. :) We are working together until this book is finished.”
— Kristy
Helped tremendously with my writing habits
“Josh Boardman is the best. Even in a short amount of time he's helped me tremendously with writing habits, improving my work, and navigating queries and submissions.”

Opened my son’s eyes to an interest he didn’t know he had
“My son was very skeptical at first, and he definitely viewed the idea of ‘tutoring’ sessions as some kind of punishment, despite my best efforts to the contrary. However, after his first session with Joshua Barnett (and after I stepped out of the room, which was *key*), he really enjoyed it! When they finished, Max came into the kitchen and said, ‘Wow. Maybe I actually want to be a writer.’ He and Josh are evolving a creative writing project in screenplay format, with a focus on setting and dialogue. Max is so excited about it, and he seems to genuinely enjoy the 15-minute ‘brainstorming’ sessions Josh has him do for homework most days. After each Monday meeting with Josh, Max has literally THANKED me for setting him up with a writing tutor. He says things like, ‘Writing is really fun, and Josh is so nice.’ He has also expressed that he feels Josh is a great teacher because he's opened Max’s eyes to an interest he did not know he had.”

learned so much
“Mariana was an excellent teacher for comedy writing! Had a great time and learned so much while with her.”

exceeded all of my writing and submission goals
“Donna is a fantastic writing coach. I have been so excited by how much she has helped me improve my writing practice. Since working together, I have achieved and exceeded all of my writing and submission goals. She is warm, friendly, and encouraging, while still being direct with her feedback. She is also flexible and adaptive in her approach and always has great ideas for how we can use our sessions as productively as possible. She is adept at providing feedback on drafts, discussing concepts to develop them further, and always ready with ideas for when I am stuck. I also really appreciate how many insights she shares about creating a sustainable and enjoyable writing practice. I highly recommend her!”
— Savannah
highly recommended
“Julian Delacruz was a wonderful teacher for the Deep Revision course. He was super clear and supportive/encouraging and the course materials will be helpful beyond our session together too. He kept us on track for the many interesting exercises during the session that helped us to add greater dimensions and sparkle to our poems, and allowed us some freedom to share work and support each other's pieces as part of our time together too. Julian is a terrific workshop leader and this class is highly recommended. The concrete suggestions for sure made our poems better, and Julian created a great space to learn together.”

helped me discover the story I’ve been trying to write
“Liz von Klemperer has been a joy to work on my novel with. She is excellent at clarifying the arc of the story; has a clear sense of character development; and never fails to come up with good suggestions that don't control my writing process, but stimulate it. She has just the right touch — not dictating, but questioning, and always in a way that helps me discover the story I’ve been trying to write all along. I highly recommend her and intend to hire her again for my next novel.”
— Dave
more confident in my abilities
“[Emma] is very friendly, she is attentive, and she has great communication skills. On the technical ability, she is amazing. She makes me work hard without having to worry if my work is good enough. I would often panic in the beginning, but she truly made me feel more confident in my abilities.”
— Ahmed
extremely effective writing coach
“Brady is an amazing writing coach! From the get-go, he has been extremely welcoming and attentive. He pays close attention to each and every word and provides invaluable feedback that truly makes my fiction come alive. He has also helped me improve my own editing skills tremendously. In a few short months, my creative writing has reached a new level. With his help, I was able to get two publications under my belt — one in SORTES magazine, and one in Outrageous Fortunes! I can tell Brady genuinely loves sharing his passion for writing with others, and I can't recommend him highly enough!”
– stephanie
deeply insightful and patient
“The Gilliam Writers Group and Mace Dent Johnson have been invaluable in advancing my writing and providing editing services. Simply put, they are professional, reliable and on top of things. Signing up, scheduling, and billing all work very efficiently. Mace is deeply insightful and patient as a teacher and coach. She reads drafts thoroughly and provides comments and edits that not only makes sense, but provide valuable learning opportunities. I look forward to continuing my relationships with GWG and Mace. I could highly recommend their services to any writer wishing to improve her craft.”

beyond satisfied
“My sessions have been amazing. I really love Veronica. I love the fact that she takes her time to understand me as a writer…to understand my writing style. I’m impressed with that.”
– Mariama
the best coaching you’ll ever experience
“My writing coach, Makina Moses, has been absolutely phenomenal…I came to her for help with writing my first sci-fi series. She is not only capable of pointing out the areas I need to work on but also provides the artistic motivation to propel me forward as a writer. It’s also a plus that she is a sci-fi fan like myself – coach and beta-reader in one. Her teaching style adapts to fit my needs as I make incremental progress. In short, I really enjoy working with Makina and I’m about to finish the first 90k-word draft of book 1 in my sci-fi series. I can’t wait to see how else my writing will level up with her help and coaching. I highly recommend her for any level of writing help you need. She’ll be able to listen to you and cater to your level. It’ll definitely be some of the best coaching you’ll ever experience.”

skilled teaching and efficient methods
“Veronica worked with my daughter Jade throughout the year. She made a huge impact on Jade's confidence as a writer. Veronica was able to quickly decipher confusing and ambiguous assignment instructions, and break down complex information for Jade in a superb fashion while at the same time allowing Jade to do the actual work of writing and thinking. Jade had no idea how to write a paragraph at the beginning of the year and now she is writing essays on her own (if she understands the topic). Jade's word choice, sentence structure, and overall understanding of organizing an essay have greatly improved because of Veronica's skilled teaching and efficient methods. Veronica — thank you so much.”

leaning in to writing in ways I never thought possible
“Julian Delacruz has become of my favorite people…ever! And I am only on week 4 of the workshop ‘Finding Recklessness In Form.’ Julian has a brilliant way of creating a safe space for all the participants in the group. He is truly gifted in the realm of inclusivity. It is no easy task to lead a multi-level group. We are a group of published poets — there are only a few of us, like me, who are writing a poem for the first time in our lives (if we don't count first grade). It is within this context of creating safety that I am able to lean in to writing in ways I never thought were possible. I am surprising myself. Julian gently nudges me to go deeper and celebrates my authenticity. I have fallen deeply in love with every poet he has introduced to us. The class is opening me in ways that have informed how I walk in this world. And has absolutely informed how I work within my profession as a Life Coach. I am so excited to take another workshop with Julian this summer.”

Our son’s writing improved tremendously
“We’ve been using GWG to help our 6th grader improve his writing. Brady has been fantastic. He related so well to our son, gave him interesting things to read and write about, and has such a calm demeanor. Our son’s writing improved tremendously with Brady’s help. I would definitely recommend him as a writing tutor.”
— Daniel
highly inspiring and useful
“I took a 4-week course in Comedy Writing with Mariana and found it to be highly inspiring and useful, with writing insights that I'll be using from now on. Best of all, there's an instant support group of peers to share your writing with and learn from. I look forward to trying some of Gilliam's many other courses.”

Couldn’t have wished for a better writing coach
“Seth is awesome. I learn so much every session. He's a thoughtful analyst and great at articulating his observations. He also does a fantastic job honing in on the root causes of problems with my storytelling. It's been only four or five sessions, and I'm already beginning to hear his voice in my head as I write — a good voice to hear. He's easy to work with, always on time, great memory for what we discussed during earlier sessions, sharp communicator. I couldn't have wished for a better coach. Thanks for a great match.”
— Mark
requires time, attention, and commitment.
“This workshop was invaluable. I learned about the importance of cultivating a relationship with your writing, like you would a friend. It requires time, attention, and commitment. I really enjoyed the pieces we were instructed to read, and learned how important it is to examine exactly why you like or don't like another writer's piece. I also learned that there is no magic involved in writing--that it is a lot of messy frustration involved and that this is normal! I thought it was just me!”
— Colleen
reminds me of my own agency and power
“I have thoroughly enjoyed working with Matt from GWG. He has helped me accomplish several goals that I have dreamed up for the last several years already. Not only that, he has a way of reminding me of my own agency and power over my writing that had gotten lost among the way. The structure he provides in the writing process pushes me along and the time we spend working on writing truly feels like an accomplishment at the end of each session!”
— Emily
growing as a writer
“GWG is great! I work with Eva who is a fantastic writer, editor, and teacher. I leave every session with a clear idea of what I need to do next. I’m enjoying my time here and growing as a writer, which is exactly what I wanted!”
— Vinamrata
new confidence in writing
“I can't recommend Brady and his team highly enough. They have been extremely helpful to our son in improving his writing skills (something that many high schools just don't adequately teach anymore with the new emphasis on STEM) and learning the specific expectations of college theme writing. Our son has new confidence in his writing and the results show in his grades. We couldn't be happier.”
— Mark
a mentor and a friend
“My student has been interested in writing since [a] young age but coming into high school junior year she seemed to feel “stuck”. We [wanted] a coach who … she could relate to in such an important transition phase. Emma is very helpful … and her insightful comments encourage critical thinking and writing. Emma is thoughtful and plans the sessions well. She has built a strong bond with my student. My student views her [as] not just a coach, but also a mentor and a friend. We only wish we had known her earlier.”

so motivated to write
“Participating in the Finding Recklessness in Form workshop led by Julián Delacruz was an incredibly generative, helpful, and powerful experience for me. I had only taken a few poetry classes before this, but have always wanted to be a poet. Julián's facilitation of this course helped me feel so supported, inspired, encouraged, and motivated to write. I left this course feeling like I have really good drafts to work with, great ideas for editing, and a new confidence and commitment to my writing. I am so grateful for this transformative experience that was more than I could have hoped for.”
— Danielle
striking efficiency and confidence
“Brady is an outstanding writing coach. He is focused at every meeting and it’s clear that his ultimate goal is to help me meet my own goals with striking efficiency and confidence. He provides valuable feedback and keeps me on track every step of the way. I decided to work with Brady after many attempts to start my first fiction book, and I enthusiastically recommend hiring him to anyone who needs the boundless encouragement, motivation, and accountability required to finish a writing project.”
– sarah
organized and consistent
“Gina has been a great writing and communication coach during our sessions. She is organized and consistent with checking in with me on the frameworks we have gone over.”
— Stephanie
can't speak highly enough of this experience
“I have been working with a writing coach from Gilliam Writers Group for several weeks now, and I can't speak highly enough of this experience! Not only is it helpful to have someone read and respond to my writing, but it has also been really great to have them suggest ways I can improve my craft that I can take with me into future projects.”
— Max
wonderful tutor and person
“Jack is professional, wants you to improve and has been very helpful with helping my son’s writing. He is a great teacher and does a good job. Wonderful tutor and person.”
— Janet
thank you
“Thank you for working with our daughter in a way that allows her to see/feel success, because I think only then can a learner feel invested in their learning process and “stick with the program”. They have to feel like what they’re learning is working. I can’t wait to see how she will continue to improve the longer you work with her. This is setting her up well for high school and beyond.”
— Sandra
useful for our daughter’s development
“The guidance Misha is giving our daughter is great. Learning her voice, outlining techniques, and narration styles are going to be useful for her development. Also, given the context of her new story, she’s learning to research. Thanks for helping guide her on this path!”
— Chris
A pleasure to work with
“I am so grateful to have had Brady’s help on the press write-ups for my new album. Brady helped me to better express and understand my ideas, and to execute them in a more in a succinct and eloquent fashion. He was also super wonderful to work with and made writing about my music (often a difficult task for me) much easier.”
– Adam
a great help to my son
“I have very much enjoyed working with Veronica at Gilliam Writing Group. She has been a great help to my son.”
— Cecily
relief and joy during the writing process
“Working with Brady has been a game-changer for my writing and for my business! I have been writing a book for the past two years, and realized that I needed support. His professionalism and talents as a writer and as a coach have been invaluable. I didn’t even know this type of help and support existed before I met him, and it has provided tremendous relief and joy during the writing process. My productivity working with him is exponentially greater than what I was able to do on my own. I’ve also had a chance to work with Liv - she’s a gifted writer and teacher. I am so grateful for meeting both of you!”

Keeps me on track and in motion
“——, of Gilliam Writer’s Group, is excellent to work with. She listens deeply, is attentive to story and character, and has a great log/summary system to keep me on track and in motion with my writing.”
— Duana
understands my daughter’s strengths
“Veronica has been such a wonderful writing coach for my 13-year old daughter. She takes time to understand my daughter’s strengths and areas for growth and uses that to plan engaging activities for her. Our goal for the coaching has been to help my daughter find her voice, to strengthen her writing skills, and to build her love of writing. Veronica has been excellent at designing the coaching to address all of these.”
— Jeffrey
a beautiful classroom environment
“Julian’s class ‘Recklessness in Form’ is special. Julian has somehow cultivated a beautiful classroom environment, lending to some courageous and vulnerable and experimental works. Julian’s readings and prompts are fantastic: gracefully shaking me into experimenting with a variety of forms — I’ve been stunned a couple times by where that’s led me.”
— David
exactly what I hoped to get
“Brady hooked me up with Josh Boardman after a short telephone interview, and I'm very pleased with both Brady's recommendation and with Josh's work over the last nine months. He's lifted me to heights I didn't know I could reach, and all his observations and suggestions have been spot-on. I'm not saying that the work has been easy, but it was exactly what I had hoped to get reaching out to a writing coach. He's showed me options that I didn't see on my own, and my using his cues to expand my characters has given me a glow on my face as I've felt the soar. He's pointed out weaknesses, which is also exactly what I was hoping for; I'm very pleased and I've gotten my money's worth from every dollar I've spent. I've been working on multiple books in a series, and Gilliam also offers beta-reading for the rest of my writing.”
— Perry
Fantastic help!
“Brady is very knowledgeable and was a great help with my paper. I strongly recommend him. You will be very pleased.”

a plethora of starting points
“Tadeh is an excellent writing teacher-tutor book coach extraordinaire. He cares deeply about your project being yours. He emphasizes that your work is a work of art, and it comes into fruition. You do not know where you are going until you arrive. Tadeh is extremely knowledgeable about the craft of writing. He knows how to help you expand and bend your thought wide open beyond what you wrote. He is full of infinite examples to describe how different feelings, scenes, thoughts, memories, flashbacks, dialogue, behavior, imagination, etc. could be expressed. He brings all his knowledge from his own work and studies into the room, offering you a plethora of starting points to better understand how to go about what you are trying to convey. To reiterate: it is extremely important to Tadeh that what he says isn’t taken in such a way that prevents you from expanding from where you are. He could offer suggestions but ultimately, he wants you to decide the direction for your work. Tadeh has given me the eyes into story that I didn’t have before. When I leave a session with him, I feel inspired, and I feel I now know something new. He sees into the words I write and causes me to consider the story behind them to give weight to the meaning it holds in my work. I now know how to provide evidence for feelings upon the page to illicit deeper understanding in my future readers. Working with Tadeh has made me feel like my book is tangible in the nearest future. A project that once felt difficult to tackle and sift through, now feels like it's taken a shape of its own. He never puts too much pressure on me, and always starts from where I am. The creative process is different for everyone. You must leave space for what the work will become. It is partially due to him that I will give birth to my greatest works.”
— Victoria
met me where I was
“Damian was great to work with, and met me where I was with my project!”
— Bill
Incredible creative writing teacher
“Brady is absolutely wonderful. My son has some challenges with creative and narrative writing, Brady brings out the best in my son and I am happily surprised to see how motivated my son is, lesson after lesson! I highly recommend Brady.”
– Gitta
The connection felt inspired!
“The initial conversation with Brady was helpful in determining what assistance I actually needed. The connection he made to my coach, Eva, felt inspired! I am excited to be making progress and looking forward to a clear outcome of a finished novel by the end of this process.”
— Reuben
a skill that develops over time
“The process of analyzing and writing about complex text is a skill that develops over time. Emma … prompts me to think critically about the passage and identify the literary devices in it. By providing examples in the texts, Emma has developed my ability to discern underlying themes, author’s motivations, and … implications. I would be lost and overwhelmed with my writing if I did not have classes with Emma.”

brought out the part of me I didn’t know was hidden
“Julian Delacruz is a fantastic teacher. He not only brought out the part of me I didn’t know was hidden, but taught me how to write better. How to experiment, how to be reckless, and how to have fun writing poetry. He also changed the way I read poetry. The class was a safe nurturing environment that opened many doors for me. I could go on and on, so I hope it’s sufficient to say that Julian creates a loving atmosphere, and a forgiving and kind atmosphere to learn how to write better. I am grateful for him and his class on many levels, I can’t recommend it highly enough!”
— Brainard
Amazing and talented
“Brady is an awesome tutor! He gave me feedback on every single line of my essay which was really good and helped me improve on my skills tremendously. He made sure to incorporate my thoughts when he was making edits, and I was really happy with the result!”
– Rithika
I am a better writer!
“I have been working with my writing coach Julia for about 5 weeks now. She is wonderful! One of my biggest issues with being a writer was/is a lack of confidence. In a short time, Julia has been patient, open to my needs, checking in about the instruction method and direction that works for me, and has had wonderful suggestions, tips and tricks. All of which has built up my confidence and I am already starting to see and feel that I am a better writer! Thanks Julia, Josh and the GWG team. Highly recommend you!”
— Mitchell
excited to learn
“I just recently started working with Josh on a writing project. I lack the writing skills for this project so I'm very excited to learn from someone who has the education and background in writing along with the patience to teach someone who doesn't have any.”
— Jane
Outstanding writing coach!
“Excellent, outstanding. Like the ateliers in Paris in 1920-30. Caroline Harper New is a dedicated teacher, a professional.”
— Pablo
Raising the bar for me as an author
“Before working with Seth, I would semi-consciously overlook many inconsistencies in my writing, thinking they were minor and likely unnoticed by readers. But Seth always notices. This has really raised the bar for me as an author. I'm also paying more attention to pacing and understanding the worlds in which my stories are set, and learning to trust myself to truly plan out a story before I start writing the first draft, which ends up saving me so much time in the long run. I'm also getting better at cutting scenes and descriptions that don't contribute to the story!”
— Mark
my daughter is already seeing improvement in her grades
“It’s been less than a year, but my daughter is already seeing improvement in her grades. Her writing tutor’s positive encouragement has built up her confidence in writing immensely. Donna helps her brainstorm ideas, provides positive feedback, and her continuous support has been invaluable. We truly appreciate all the help Donna has provided so far, and hope to continue working together.”
— Sarah
Wonderful!
“Brady was fantastic! He engaged my 15-year-old son so much so that at the end of the lesson, he was eager to tell me about the session and said, ‘Thanks for the tutor, Mom.’ Once I picked my jaw up from the floor, I sent Brady a thank you note!”
– Wendy
would definitely take this class again
“I have really enjoyed taking a poetry class with the Gilliam Writers Group. I have found it to be an incredibly interesting experience. I have learned a lot through the poems and writings that Julian has shared and the feedback he has given each of us. I have also had the pleasure of meeting and sharing my work with some really creative and talented people. I would definitely take this class again and I would happily take another workshop with the Gilliam group.”
— Katie
great progress in a small amount of time
“Thank you Gilliam Writers Group for your continued work with our son. He is making great progress in a small amount of time. Look forward to continuing our relationship with you and Veronica.”
— Nicole
Great tutor
“Brady helped me organize and structure an essay for my English Composition class. He helped me tackle the essay prompt and formulate a compelling argument, strong thesis, and walked me through each step of the outline. Brady went above and beyond to help me with the last-minute essay that I was struggling with. I highly recommend Brady as a writing tutor.”
– Kayla

— Dave
Wonderful sense of humor and immediate connection with our son
“Brady understood very quickly what our son enjoys writing about and how to reach out and help him improve. We are looking forward to more lessons and more insights from a very gifted teacher.”
– Emiko
sharpening the basics
“Misha is targeting exactly all the basics we have observed where our son could be supported. Sentence formation, tense, grammar, going back to the passage, interpretation of questions, etc. We love how she is approaching this and continuing to invest in and sharpen the basics.”
— Rajesh
a great way to jump-start stalled work
“Julian's Deep Revision class is a great way to jump-start stalled work on your poems. It's a rapid and intense exercise to build skills and learn handy techniques for adding depth and color and considering alternatives for directions in which you want your poems to go. I highly recommend the class for boosting skills and enthusiasm for your writing.”

straightforward and helpful
“Before coming to GWG, I had been feeling very lost in my book process. I knew I needed some serious help but didn’t know where to go. I reached out to friends and family who gave feedback, but it wasn’t enough. My coach, Gina, was fantastic. She was very good about scheduling appointments and keeping them. We shared a Google doc where I could drop things that I wanted her feedback on, and her feedback was always straightforward and helpful.”

Fantastic teacher
“Finally, I found a tutor who can explain English grammar in a way that makes sense! I’m super happy that I found Brady. Every lesson I feel that I actually learned something. He is not just spending an hour with you but making sure you understood the rules. I wish I found him earlier.”

sensitive to my unique goals as an artist
“Julian is a deeply gifted, informed writer and teacher. His feedback on my work has been incisive and thorough, generous and compassionate, and sensitive to my unique goals as an artist. His reading assignments and prompts are thoughtfully curated to demonstrate stylistic excellence, formal innovation, and the importance of personal risk in craft. You can be yourself in Julian’s class because he cultivates an environment that feels safe, welcoming, and playful. It wasn’t long before he and my colleagues felt like home. There is so much room to experiment with choice in his curriculum. Like a choose-your-own-adventure, you can go off-prompt to follow the call of your instincts, revise and recycle old poems. Under his wing I am gradually building a nest (dare I say a collection?) with scraps from colorful works in progress, abandoned projects and research rabbit-holes. Julian is essential for Gilliam Writers’ Group. He knows how to meet all writers at any level of experience and guide them closer to the heart of their vision. I am a more courageous and honest writer because of him.”

transforms students’ attitudes
“Emma is a knowledgeable and friendly tutor who has expertise in literature and writing, as well as possesses an outstanding ability to establish a strong connection with students of various personalities. Emma’s aptitude to transform students' attitudes toward the subject is noteworthy. By cultivating understanding and competence in the subject, Emma is not only closing knowledge gaps but also instilling a sense of confidence and enjoyment in the learning process. I highly recommend Emma as a destination for those seeking assistance in English and/or literature.”

they are caring here
“Brady’s intuition of who to pair me with was spot on. K Henderson is so so amazing! We had an amazing first session where K assessed my needs and desires in relationship to my project. They gave me so much support even in our first meeting. We did some exercises that I have been using every day and have used to produce so much content, which I had been afraid to write previously. K is the type of human I enjoy being around. I think if you’re matched with K you will be very excited about the results of your choice to work with them. They are caring here and your time is taken as a serious commitment from both you and Gilliam Writers Group”

a fantastic tutor
“Brady is working with my son on grammar and writing. He has a passion for this subject which makes the classes fun and entertaining. He is able to read my son's engagement and knows how to adapt and maximize teaching effectiveness. He is also just a really nice person who my son enjoys interacting with. We have had a great experience with Brady!”

an environment of acceptance and genuine care
“Julian Delacruz is one of a kind! As a new student to poetry, he has made me feel so welcomed and accepted, and has encouraged me every step of the way! He has encouraged me and has been patient with me as I learn. He always admonishes me to go deeper, explore more, and to really look for what it is I'm actually trying to connect with in myself through the poem I'm composing. He's very concerned with our personal growth as writers as well as our spiritual and emotional growth as human beings which is evidenced in his empathy and compassion as he engages with our most intimate stories. Julian has such a special way of helping groups of people to connect in kindness and on a heart level, and he has really succeeded in that manner in this workshop! His kindness and joy overflows into all of us in the class, and he has successfully curated an environment of acceptance and genuine care which exists simultaneously with safety, so that we all feel comfortable opening our hearts and sharing our truth in "recklessness". As a poet, Julian is mind-blowing. His works are original in style, they celebrate language, take the reader on a journey, light up the imagination, and are enchanting in every way. They are perfectly composed with carefully chosen lyrics and no superfluous words, and beg to be shared with the world. His poems transport the reader, make the reader FEEL, and bring the reader a new EXPERIENCE, every time. In my opinion, Julian's works are often INEXHAUSTIBLE and are experienced anew with each reread. If you are ever given the opportunity to experience a workshop or class with this master, please do yourself a favor, and take the class! It will be challenging. It will stretch you in ways you have never been stretched, BUT, you will grow in ways you never could have without having experienced a class with the incredible Julian Delacruz!”

The real deal
“This has been a really positive experience! The website is user-friendly for an oldster like me. Response to my inquiry was quick, the ‘onboarding’ was so easy and efficient, and my needs seemed to be very carefully assessed. Within 3 days I had been really well-matched with Jill Spivey, a very well-qualified writer and professor of literature. As a writing and lit teacher myself, I can tell you — she’s the real deal. Even though we’ve only just started, I could go on and on about the quality and depth of the sessions and Jill’s willingness to meet and work with me where I am, and about the really thorough and helpful written summaries that follow our sessions. I’m jazzed!”

enhanced my skill and satisfaction as a writer
“I've now come to the last phase of editing the first of the two books I've been working on with the Gilliam Writers Group prior to submitting it for self-publishing. I've received invaluable advice from Josh Boardman about one of the hardest things I've had to do as an author, namely cutting parts of my manuscript that aren't contributing significantly to the whole. As has been the case each time he's made suggestions to me, Josh’s advice has been spot-on and actionable. Besides helping me to improve my manuscript, he's enhanced my skill and satisfaction as a writer by teaching me how ‘less can be more.’ He's also helped with the publisher's pitch for the back cover as well as the ‘About the Author’ essay. I'm totally satisfied with my experience with GWG.”
